Magdalene Iyamu Cancer Foundation is a non governmental organization registered under Nigeria’s corporate affairs commission with registration number CAC/IT/NO64051. We are saddled with the responsibility to educate, enlighten and assist persons living with cancer. Amongst the principle objectives for the foundation is the creation of medical awareness on the dangers of cancer and the need for early detection.

The core reason for the establishment of this foundation stemmed from the unfortunate but glorious demise of my beloved mother-cum-confidant, Mrs. Magdalene Ekinadose Iyamu, who died from ovarian cancer on the 26th of October, 2011.

MEET OUR PRESIDENT

Osarumwense Jonathan Iyamu hails from the oil rich Niger delta in South-South Nigeria. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1995 from word of faith group of schools. He proceeded to Auntie Maria College where he obtained the West African Examination Council WAEC in 2001. He gained admission into Madonna University in 2001 to study medicine and surgery but he was unsuccessful in his bid to become a medical doctor. Undeterred by his situation at that time, he sat for the international general certificate examination (G.C.E) and obtained the Cambridge advanced level result and then proceeded to the University of Benin to study environmental science in 2006 where he obtained a Bachelor’s in science.

He holds a postgraduate diploma in education and a master’s degree in public health (in view) from University of Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Over the years he has participated and obtained several professional certifications from prestigious universities and organizations across the globe, amongst is the –

Jonathan Osarumwense Iyamu currently works as a journalist for the federal government in Nigeria at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (Radio Nigeria). This has strategically placed him as a member of the Nigerian union of journalist and the Nigerian institute of strategic management.

He founded the Magdalene Iyamu Cancer Foundation shortly after his beloved mother was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on her breast with no significant medical or genetical history of cancer.

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL (ECOSOC) OF THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK GRANTED SPECIAL CONSULTATIVE STATUS TO magdalene iyamu cancer foundation

Proudly, MICF announces that after 7 years of effective work and close contact with the United Nations finally, MICF received a grant of special consultative status from the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations on June 6, 2019.

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Consultative status for an organization enables it to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat, programs, funds, and agencies in a number of ways.

Based on this opportunity, MICF representatives are able to register and take part in the official meeting such as events, conferences, and other activities at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the United Nations offices in Geneva and Vienna.

Therefore, organizations in general and special consultative status may appoint authorized representatives to sit as observers at public meetings of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, the Human Rights Council under certain conditions, the General Assembly and other United Nations intergovernmental bodies.

Organizations in general and special consultative status are able to send written statements relevant to the work of the Council on subjects in which these organizations have a special competence. These statements may be circulated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to the members of the Council.

The Secretary-General is authorized to offer United Nations facilities to NGOs in consultative status, including:

• accommodation for conferences or smaller meetings related to the work of ECOSOC, as available and under the conditions set at each UN Office;

• appropriate seating arrangements and facilities for obtaining documents during public meetings of the General Assembly that deal with matters in the economic and social and related fields;

• arrangement of informal discussions on matters of special interest to groups or organizations;

• access to United Nations press documentation services;

• prompt and efficient distribution of documents related to ECOSOC and its

subsidiary bodies as the Secretary-General deem appropriate;

• use of United Nations libraries.
